How Do You Change Your Mindset?
Using Songs, Tapping and Repetition
If you want to change your mindset, one of the simplest places to start is with the thoughts, songs, phrases and patterns already repeating in the background of your mind.
Mindset work is not always the polished “just think positive” stuff that makes you want to walk away, have a coffee, and eat chocolate. Real mindset work shows up when you are paying bills, looking in the mirror, receiving criticism, feeling unsafe, or wondering whether you are actually allowed to be happy, joyful, abundant and well.
This week on Spiritual Awakening with Shaz, I spoke about the way old thought patterns become familiar through repetition, rhythm, emotion and body memory. I also shared how songs, jingles, EFT tapping, movement and playful repetition can help you shift old programming around health, wealth, self-worth and happiness.
Because if the old pattern was created through repetition, then a new pattern can be created the same way.
Why Do Old Thought Patterns Feel So True?
Old thought patterns often feel true because they have been repeated for so long.
That does not mean they are true.
It means your unconscious mind has heard them enough times to treat them as familiar.
Some of those thoughts may sound like:
- There is never enough.
- I always struggle.
- My body does not work properly.
- Good things do not last for me.
- I cannot trust myself.
- I will probably mess this up.
- I am not lucky like other people.
Most of these thoughts do not arrive with flashing lights and dramatic music. They are often quiet little programs running in the background of your mind.
You may notice them when you check your bank account and your chest tightens. Maybe they show up when you look in the mirror and the inner critic starts having a field day. Sometimes they appear when something good happens and your nervous system says, “Hang on a minute, are we safe to have this?”
That reaction is not always intuition.
Often, it is old programming.
The beautiful part is this: if your mind learnt the old pattern, it can learn something new.
How Does Repetition Help Change Your Mindset?
Your unconscious mind learns through repetition, rhythm, emotion and familiarity.
That is why songs stay in your head.
You can forget why you walked into the kitchen, yet still remember every word to a song from years ago. Your brain does not do that because it wants to annoy you, although sometimes it has questionable timing. It does it because the tune, rhythm and repeated words created a pathway.
This is how nursery rhymes work.
Children learn songs like Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes because they sing the words, touch the body parts, repeat the actions and move with the rhythm. The alphabet works the same way. We learnt it through repetition, not by staring at letters and hoping enlightenment arrived before recess.
Adults are not that different.
We just have bills, responsibilities, sore backs and a few extra emotional suitcases.
When you want to change your mindset, repetition matters. The old thought became familiar because it was practised. A new thought needs practice too.
Why Do Songs and Jingles Get Stuck in Your Head?
Advertising companies have understood this for years.
Think about old jingles like Aeroplane Jelly or Louie the Fly. If you grew up hearing them, part of your brain probably still knows the tune. You did not sit down and study those ads. You heard them repeatedly until your mind stored them.
That is the power of rhythm and repetition.
The same thing happens with little songs, slogans, chants, dances and jingles. They get into your head because they are simple, catchy and repeated often enough to become familiar.
So here is the question.
If a fly spray jingle can live rent free in your head for decades, why can’t your own healing words get some prime real estate too?
Rather than letting old fear, judgement, stress or money panic repeat in the background, you can give your mind a new phrase to practise.
This is not about pretending real life does not exist. You still need to pay bills, care for your body, make decisions and take practical action. The shift happens when you choose what you keep rehearsing inside your own mind and body.
Can Music Help Shift Old Patterns in the Body?
Music can support mindset work because it carries emotion.
A song can take you straight back to a memory, a person, a place or a feeling. Your body may respond before your logical mind catches up.
That is why music, tapping, movement and rhythm can work so well together.
Old thought patterns are not only mental. They often live in the body too.
You might feel them as:
- tightness in your chest
- tension in your shoulders
- a sinking feeling in your stomach
- shallow breathing
- bracing before something has happened
- discomfort when receiving money, support or attention
If the old pattern lives in the body, the new pattern needs to reach the body too.
That is where somatic work comes in.
Somatic simply means body-based. When you tap, clap, sing, move, dance, open your hands or place your hand on your heart, you bring the body into the mindset shift. You are no longer trying to think your way into change while your nervous system is still sitting in the corner saying, “Nope, not safe.”
You are giving your body a new experience.
How Can Baby Shark Help You Change Your Mindset?
Yes, we are going there.
Baby Shark.
Sorry if it is already in your head.
That is the whole point.
A tune like Baby Shark gets stuck because it is simple, repetitive and easy for the brain to grab. It loops without much effort. That same rhythm can drive people mad, especially parents who have heard it 700 times in the car.
So instead of letting it torture you for free, make it useful.
In your own home, car, shower or mind, you can take a familiar rhythm and change the words into something that supports you.
This is not about publishing someone else’s tune or copying someone’s song. It is private practice. People already do this every day. We make up songs about the dog, dinner, the washing, the kids, or the fact that nobody in the house knows how to replace the toilet roll.
Now do it on purpose.
You might use short phrases like:
- I am love.
- I am rich.
- I am well.
- I am safe.
- I receive.
- There is more.
Simple works best.
Your unconscious mind does not need a complicated paragraph. It needs something clear enough to repeat.
If your brain can repeat Baby Shark after one listen, it can repeat “I am safe,” “I am well,” “I receive,” and “There is plenty more where that came from.”
That is how you take the thing that was driving everyone crazy and make it work in your favour.
How Do The Wiggles Show Us the Power of Repetition?
The Wiggles are another perfect example.
Hot Potato. Fruit Salad. Big Red Car.
You hear those songs and part of your brain knows what comes next, even if you have not heard them for years.
That is rhythm.
That is repetition.
That is body memory.
Children learn through songs, actions and movement because it makes the information easier to remember. Adults can use the same idea with mindset work.
A Wiggles-style rhythm could become:
- I am safe now.
- Old fear, let it go.
- I am well now.
- Body, feel the flow.
- Money flows now.
- More can come and grow.
- I see me now.
- I love me now.
Is it silly?
Yes.
Good.
Silly can break the trance.
Some of our old patterns have been acting far too important for far too long. The fear voice in your head thinks it is the CEO of your life. It is not.
Sometimes the fastest way to loosen an old pattern is to do something playful, unexpected and slightly ridiculous. That moment of interruption gives you space to choose a different response.
Why Do Actions and Movement Make Mindset Work Stronger?
Actions create body memory.
Think about the Nutbush or the Macarena. Many people can hear the song and still remember the moves, even if they have not done them for years. The body learnt the pattern through repetition.
That same idea can support healing.
When you sing “I am love,” place your hand on your heart.
While saying “I receive,” open your hands.
If you repeat “I am safe,” tap your collarbone or rub the sore spot on your chest.
When you say “let it go,” brush your hands away from your body.
As you say “let it flow,” open your arms to receive.
These little movements matter because they anchor the words into the body.
You are not just saying a new thought. You are giving your nervous system a repeated physical experience to match it.
How Can EFT Tapping Support a Mindset Shift?
EFT tapping is powerful because it uses repetition, intention and the body’s meridian points.
When you tap while speaking or singing a phrase, you bring the message into the body rather than leaving it floating around in your head.
Many people use tapping when they feel anxious, overwhelmed or triggered. That is beautiful. Yet tapping can also support new patterns.
You might tap with phrases like:
- I am safe now.
- I am well now.
- I receive now.
- Money flows now.
- Old fear, let it go.
- New me, let it grow.
The point is not to perform it perfectly.
Your body does not need perfect singing. Thank goodness for that, because most of us are not winning Australian Idol in the shower.
What matters is the repetition, rhythm, emotional intention and willingness to give your system a new signal.
How Do You Use Let It Go and Let It Flow?
One of my favourite shifts is taking the idea of “let it go” and turning it into “let it flow.”
Both are needed.
Let it go helps you release.
Let it flow helps you receive.
Many people become good at clearing, healing, cutting cords, releasing patterns and letting go. Then they forget to open the door to what comes next.
They clear the room, then stand there with the door shut.
No, beautiful.
Let it go.
Then let it flow.
You can use this as a simple tapping round.
Release tapping round
- Eyebrow: Let it go.
- Side of the eye: Let the old fear go.
- Under the eye: Let the old story go.
- Under the nose: Let the old shame go.
- Chin: Let the old pattern go.
- Collarbone: Let the tightness go.
- Under the arm: Let the struggle go.
- Top of the head: I am safe to let it go.
Receiving tapping round
- Eyebrow: Let it flow.
- Side of the eye: Let the money flow.
- Under the eye: Let the health flow.
- Under the nose: Let the happiness flow.
- Chin: Let the love flow.
- Collarbone: Let the support flow.
- Under the arm: Let the peace flow.
- Top of the head: I am ready to let it flow.
You can also add movement.
Brush the old energy away when releasing. Open your hands when receiving. Breathe out as you let go, then soften your body as you let flow.
That small action helps your body understand the difference between release and receiving.
How Can Mirror Work Help You Change Your Mindset?
For many women, the mirror has not always been a kind place.
They look at their reflection and hear the old critic. It points out wrinkles, weight, tiredness, age, flaws and every insecurity it can find before breakfast. Charming little thing, isn’t it?
The mirror can become a trigger for harshness, but it can also become a trigger for greatness.
You can stand in front of the mirror, place your hand on your heart, tap gently and speak to yourself in a new way.
Try phrases like:
- I see me.
- I know me.
- I am learning to love who I came here to be.
- Old me, I hold you.
- New me, I am walking right beside you.
- Future me, I feel you near.
- I choose you now.
- I finally see the woman I was born to be.
This might feel awkward at first.
That does not mean it is not working.
I spent years saying “I love you” in the mirror before it truly landed. Then one day, the inner critic went quiet. That is what repetition does. It gives the new truth enough time to sink in.
Why Affirmations Sometimes Feel Fake
Affirmations can feel disheartening when your body does not believe them yet.
If you stand in front of the mirror saying, “I am rich, I am wealthy, my bank account is full,” while your bank account is clearly telling a different story, your body may reject the phrase. You can not change your mindset when you are rejecting what you are saying.
That does not mean you cannot shift your money mindset.
It means you may need a better bridge.
A phrase like “There is plenty more where that came from” can feel softer and more believable. It opens the door without forcing the nervous system into a fight.
You can also use:
- Money can return to me.
- I am learning to feel safe with money.
- I can receive more than I expect.
- I can have anything I want.
- Everything is always working out for me.
Those phrases can help the body move out of contraction and into possibility.
My Money Jingle to Change Your Mindset for Abundance
One of the ways I have been playing with my own abundance mindset is through a simple money jingle.
I sing it because it feels good. It lifts my energy. The rhythm makes it easier for my mind to repeat, and the words help me feel more open to receiving.
Here is the money jingle from the podcast:
- Every dollar that I spend,
- Comes back to me, my lucky friend.
- Ten times over, it multiplies,
- Like rivers under the skies.
- There’s always more where that came from,
- Money’s beating like a drum.
- I spend, I give, I love the flow,
- Money’s dancing, watch it grow.
No, you do not need to be a perfect singer.
You do not need to perform it for anyone.
This is not about winning a talent show. It is about using rhythm, repetition and language to shift the way money feels in your body.
If those words do not work for you, make your own.
That is the whole point.
How Do You Create Your Own Mindset Song?
Start with one old pattern.
Do not try to reprogram your entire life by Thursday. That is how people overwhelm themselves, buy a new journal, light a candle, make 72 affirmations, and then feel like a failure by Friday.
Choose one thought that keeps repeating.
Ask yourself:
- What is the old belief?
- Where did it come from?
- Does it still support me?
- How does my body feel when I think it?
- What would I rather practise instead?
- Which phrase feels believable enough to repeat?
- What tune, rhythm, action or tapping pattern could help it stick?
Then keep it simple.
Try phrases like:
- I am safe.
- I am well.
- I receive.
- Money flows.
- I am loved.
- I can have it all.
- Let it go.
- Let it flow.
- There is plenty more where that came from.
Once you have your phrase, repeat it with rhythm. Tap it through the points. Sing it in the shower. Use actions. Clap your hands. Open your arms. Dance around the kitchen if you need to.
Make it fun enough that you actually want to do it.
Can You Use This With Your Children To Change Your Mindset?
Yes, and this can be beautiful for children.
Kids already learn through songs, actions, cartoons, rhythm and repetition. Instead of leaving that programming to random videos, ads and catchy songs, you can create loving little affirmations with them.
If they have a favourite song from a movie or show, you can privately change the words into something that builds their self-esteem.
Keep it simple.
Use phrases like:
- I am kind.
- I am brave.
- I am loved.
- I am safe.
- I can try again.
- I trust myself.
This does not need to be complicated. Children respond to repetition, movement and play. So do adults. We just pretend we are too serious for it, then secretly sing in the car when nobody is watching.
How Do You Know If You Are Healing or Rehearsing?
At some point, you need to ask yourself an honest question.
Am I healing this, or am I rehearsing this?
That one can sting.
Old stories can become familiar because we have told them so many times. Sometimes we say we want to change, but we keep repeating the same identity, the same wound, the same expectation and the same outcome.
That does not mean you shame yourself.
It means you notice the pattern.
Your unconscious mind hears repetition. It hears the story you keep telling. It listens to the words you use about your money, body, relationships, confidence, health and future.
So choose what you rehearse.
You are not denying what happened. You are not pretending everything is fine. Instead, you are deciding the old program no longer gets the microphone every single day.
You get to choose a new song. That song helps you change your mindset.
There Is Plenty More Where That Came From
When money comes in, say it.
There is plenty more where that came from.
After your body feels better, repeat it.
There is plenty more where that came from.
When a client books, let yourself receive it.
There is plenty more where that came from.
If you laugh again, feel hopeful, or notice something is finally shifting, remind your whole system:
There is plenty more where that came from.
This phrase can apply to money, health, love, joy, peace, support, energy, confidence and the next version of you.
Life is not handing you one tiny crumb and telling you not to get greedy.
You are allowed to receive more, feel better, change the words in your and and shift the pattern in your body. That is how you change your mindset.
Not by forcing yourself to believe something fake.
Not by bypassing real life.
And not by pretending fear never existed.
Through repetition, rhythm, movement, tapping, play and choosing what you practice.
You are not broken.
You are not stuck with the old playlist.
The best part is you can change the song.
You can change the pattern.
And beautiful, there is plenty more where that came from.
