How the 7 Principles of Spiritualism and 10 Indian Commandments Can Transform Your Life

Introduction to the 7 Principles of Spiritualism and the 10 Indian Commandments

When I began my spiritual journey, I wanted connection, guidance, and a supportive community. I found all of that in the Spiritualist churches of Western Sydney. These gatherings welcomed me with open arms and introduced me to timeless spiritual wisdom. They follow the  7 Principles of Spiritualism and the 10 Indian Commandments – two powerful sets of guidelines that can help you live a more connected, compassionate, and purposeful life.

The 7 Principles of Spiritualism

The 7 Principles are not rigid rules. They’re heart-centred guidelines that help you live in alignment with universal truth.

1. The Fatherhood (or Source) of God

God is not just an external presence – it’s the divine energy within you. When you reconnect with this source, you feel whole. Disconnection from God often leads to pain, while reconnection brings peace and clarity.

2. The Brotherhood of Man

We are all connected. No matter your background, race, or status, every person shares the same humanity. This principle reminds us that equality and compassion must guide our interactions.

3. The Communion of Spirits and the Ministry of Angels

Our loved ones and spiritual guides remain connected to us beyond the physical world. Angels, guides, and higher beings offer signs, messages, and support – if we remain open to receiving them.

4. The Continuous Existence of the Human Soul

The soul never dies. Whether through reincarnation, spiritual realms, or other life forms, our essence continues. This principle is a reminder that life is an eternal journey of growth.

5. Personal Responsibility

You are the creator of your reality. The thoughts you choose, the actions you take, and the energy you embody shape your life. Taking responsibility means stepping out of victim mode and into personal power.

6. Compensation and Retribution for All Good and Evil Deeds

Often called karma, this principle reflects the cause-and-effect nature of life. The energy you send out will return – whether positive or negative.

7. Eternal Progress Open to Every Human Soul

Growth never stops. Every experience, whether joyful or painful, is an opportunity to evolve. Your soul’s journey continues beyond this life, offering endless opportunities to learn.

The 10 Indian Commandments

These Native American life principles are practical, heart-based ways of living in harmony with the Earth and each other.

  1. Treat the Earth and All Living Things with Respect – Care for nature and protect all forms of life.

  2. Remain Close to the Great Spirit – Stay connected to your spiritual source for strength and guidance.

  3. Show Great Respect to Your Fellow Beings – Treat others as you wish to be treated.

  4. Work Together for the Benefit of All Mankind – Collaborate and uplift your community.

  5. Give Assistance and Kindness Wherever Needed – Offer help without expecting anything in return.

  6. Do What You Know to Be Right – Trust your inner moral compass.

  7. Look After the Well-being of Mind and Body – Care for your mental, emotional, and physical health.

  8. Dedicate a Share of Your Efforts to the Greater Good – Contribute to causes beyond your own needs.

  9. Be Truthful and Honest at All Times – Honesty fosters trust and self-respect.

  10. Take Full Responsibility for Your Actions – Own your choices and their impact.

Why These Principles Matter

Both the 7 Principles and the 10 Commandments overlap in many ways. Together, they:

  • Encourage self-awareness and responsibility

  • Strengthen your spiritual connection

  • Foster respect for others and the Earth

  • Offer a practical framework for daily living

How to Apply The 7 Principles of Spiritualism in Your Life

  • Journal your reflections on each principle.

  • Identify where you already live by these guidelines and where you could improve.

  • Practice small daily actions that align with kindness, respect, and responsibility.

  • Connect with a like-minded community to share your journey.

Final Thoughts

You don’t have to follow these principles perfectly. They’re not about perfection — they’re about progress. When you live by them, you naturally create more peace, love, and connection in your life.

If you’d like to talk about how these principles can support your own awakening, I’d love to connect. You can reach me via my website or through social media.
